Aquatics Program
The J’s comprehensive aquatics program operates in our 25-meter indoor pool and outdoor pool and spray ground. Whether you join us for lessons, training or recreational time we can guarantee that you feel the mental and physical benefits of water. Swimming is a great social outlet for all ages, is a stress reducer, and supports cognitive function and development.

Open Swim
With six lanes, The J’s indoor pool can easily accommodate concurrent lap swimming, lessons, aerobic classes and free swimming year-round, seven days a week. Women’s only and family swim times are offered several times a week. During the summer, our outdoor pool has plenty of opportunities for open, lap, adult only and family swimming.
Aquatics Group Exercise
Take your workout to the pool with our free and fee-based groups classes offered to members six days a week. From CrossFit and Core Cardio classes to shallow water core, arthritis and cardio dance all ages will get a great full-body workout.
Child and Adult Swim Lessons
The J has been a winner of the Northeast Ohio Parent Choice Award for Best space for Kids’ Swim Lessons several years in a row. We offer American Red Cross learn-to-swim lessons for individuals of all skill levels starting at six months old.
- H2O Adapt Parent/Child is for children ages six months through 3 years old learn the basics of swimming while getting acclimated to the water.
- Preschool is a developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience that emphasizes water safety, survival and foundational swimming concepts.
- Swim Lessons for Ages 6 - 12 has five levels that are based on a logical progression from introduction to water skills and safety to stroke development and deep water swimming/treading water.
- Adult Private Swim Lessons is offered for all skill levels, individuals ages 18 and older will receive individualized one-on-one instruction.
U.S. Masters Swimming Program
This program is for dedicated, adult swimmers who want to experience an intense workout while advancing their swimming technique and skills. Level 1 Master Coach Laura Wright provides instruction and workouts tailored to each swimmer's individual ability. The goal is for you to become a more efficient and advanced swimmer.
Lifeguard Training and Certification
We offer American Red Cross Blended
Lifeguarding Certification courses throughout the year for individuals ages 15 and older. When signing a contract to work at The J, the registration fee is reimbursed.

The class is designed to give participants a positive learning experience while working on fundamental aquatic skills including front crawl and backstrokes, floating and basic water skills.

Level 3 swim lessons build upon Level 2 lessons to help children ages 6-12 with stroke development.
Children ages 6-12 receive lessons based on a logical, level progression that helps swimmers develop water safety, survival and swimming skills. Stroke development builds on the skills learned in Level 2 through additional guided practice in deeper water working on rhythmic breathing and adding new strokes after refining front crawl and backstroke.

This course trains instructor candidates to teach all American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses.
This American Red Cross class is a blended learning course that combines online practice teaching with in-person water sessions. You will learn how to handle organizing a class, setting lesson plans and lesson progression, and will practice teaching. Once you register for the class, Sue Skuza will reach out with details about the online portion, which is due by the first day of class. The in-person portion is March 5, 6, 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
